Goldstein: “I’m Homeless”-update

Porn Valley- Somebody’s bullshittin’ somebody. Because contrary to what AVN publisher Paul Fishbein said on Howard Stern a couple of weeks ago, Al Goldstein remains homeless. Which kind of contradicts what Fishbein told Stern.

Asked if he was going to fall from grace like Goldstein, Fishbein said Goldstein is doing better. Stern wondered why the porno industry wasn’t helping Goldstein out. “We are helping him,” said Fishbein.

“He has a job and he has an apartment on Staten Island,” Fishbein added. https://adultfyi.com/read.aspx?ID=7211

Not according to what Goldstein told Stern this morning. Which means that not only did Fishbein bring on a ringer to compete in a porn contest, his nose grew 4 inches on national radio.

Not sounding any the worse for wear, Goldstein glibly talked about his current lifestyle which includes thrift shop ensembles and handouts from hookers. “I go to the Salvation Army.” Stern even allowed himself to be touched by Goldstein’s plight and handed him $500. Which didn’t prohibit Stern from throwing the dig. “I’m on top of my game and you’ve hit rock bottom,” Stern observed, noting that Goldstein at one time had been the king of porn. “You’re the guy who started Screw Magazine.

“You had a mansion in Pompano Beach, Florida worth $2.5 million,” said Stern continuing to rub it in. In his heyday Goldstein said his salary was $400,000. “I had a townhouse on 247 E. 61st. I owned it.” Goldstein said he sold that for $1.5 million in 1989. “It’s now for sale for $7.5 million.”

Goldstein’s house in Florida was 15 rooms and 10,000 square feet. “I had $11 million in the bank.” Goldstein was also coughing a lot and Stern delicately asked him if he had cancer. Goldstein attributed it to the cigar smoking and living in a homeless shelter on 123rd Street & Lexington. [Didn’t Fishbein say Goldstein had an apartment on Staten Island?]

Neither does Goldstein’s son speak to him. According to Goldstein, his son’s starting salary at a law firm upon graduating from Harvard was $192,000. “He knows his father’s homeless- he doesn’t care.” According to Goldstein part of the rift was Goldstein mentioning on Stern that his son was a Harvard lawyer. “I was boasting.” Stern begged to differ that it was Goldstein not being a good father to the the kid as he was growing up. Goldstein said he gave his kid a $500 a week allowance and indulged him with other things as well. “He graduates Georgetown, Oxford and Harvard without owing a penny.” But Goldstein was willing to concede that somehow he failed as a father. “Maybe I exposed him to you- I don’t know.”

Stern remembered Goldstein saying terrible things about his son on the show. “Until he didn’t invite me to graduation at Harvard,” Goldstein explained. “I felt humiliated. His mother Gina talked him out of inviting me.” Stern said you can’t bad mouth your son even when he doesn’t invite you to a graduation. “You can’t do it publicly.”

Goldstein said suddenly the money that financed his son’s education became dirty money to his son. Goldstein went on to say that for the last month he’s been in a homeless shelter and hasn’t earned any money in a year and a half.Stern wondered what could have possibly happened for Goldstein to lose it all. “You’re a bright guy.” Goldstein attributed it to being a bad businessman along with ex-wives who sucked him dry.

Goldstein, who’s going to be 69, said he didn’t have any money left and that he had to sign for a bed at a homeless shelter or risk losing his place there. Goldstein said both Larry Flynt and Dennis Hof turned their backs on him. “Our friendly pimp turned his back.”

According to Goldstein, he’s getting help from Penn & Teller. “Penn has said he would help me find a new place.” Goldstein also credited a lawyer named Charley DiStefano who was helping him for free and giving him money. “I’m so bad at the homeless shelter another homeless person gave me $5.”

Goldstein also credits Ron Jeremy and the fact that a hooker, who Goldstein would frequent, gave him $100. “It sounds funny but it’s pathetic.”

According to Goldstein, his fiancee bailed out on him as well as B-movie actress Linnea Quigley. Goldstein predicted that if Stern loses his satellite gig he’s going to go to sleep, alone, crying. “You lose 99% of your friends.”

Proving Goldstein’s point, Stern took exception that Goldstein was trying to equate his life with Stern’s. “I have a whole different way of approaching people. I’m connected to people. I have a relationship with my children.” Under Stern’s barrage of self-aggrandizement, Goldstein threw up his hands and admitted he was inadequate as a human being.

Stern said he heard that Goldstein had been offered a job for $100,000 but that Goldstein didn’t take it. Goldstein said his probation didn’t allow him to. It was mentioned that Goldstein had also been a greeter at The Stage deli on Second Avenue. Goldstein explained that he had been moved to another place called New York City Bagels and is selling catering and making guest appearances on their behalf. Stern noted that Goldstein was wearing nail polish. Goldstein explained that he’ll still get manicures and pedicures and panhandles the money to cover the costs. “I don’t want to stink. I’m selling food. I have to be clean. I shower every day, too.”

Asked where he keeps his belongings, Goldstein says he carries them with him in a shopping bag. “I’m begging for money. I’m homeless.”

Stern suspected that Goldstein’s was a bit. Goldstein claims no. Captain Janx called in and advised Goldstein to try getting a job. Goldstein said he’s working for New York City Bagels and gets a commission. Goldstein did mention that he collects social security and that Screw Magazine went bankrupt a year and a half ago.

“The reason it folded is because I could not compete with the Internet. You get all the hookers and porno you want. And I’m not a good businessman.”
