SEATTLE — from www.komonews.com – A handyman is accused of exposing himself to a 4-year-old girl while on the job at a local family’s home.
James A. Warning, a Level 3 sex offender, has been charged with felony indecent exposure.
Investigators said the 56-year-old subcontractor was installing a fireplace door at the victim’s home on July 8 when the incident took place, according to the statement of probable cause. The 4-year-old victim, her brother and her nanny were home at the time.
Detectives said the girl was alone in the living room with Warning when he told the girl they were “going to play a game” and to “be really quiet so nobody will hear us.”
Warning then exposed himself and asked the girl to “show him where her ‘pee-pee’ comes out,” the statement said. The girl did not comply and hid behind the couch, investigators said.
The girl said she “kept hiding myself” around the couch, but Warning followed her around. During that time, detectives said, he only put his hands on her hand and waist.
The girl’s parents did not find out about the incident until the day after Warning left their home, according to investigators. They called police, then called the general contractor who had hired Warning to find out his identity.
Warning was arrested in Kittatas County on July 15 while hiking on the John Wayne Trail near Stampede Pass. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
In requesting the high bail, prosecutors said Warning is “a proven danger to the children of the community.”
Warning was released from prison in 2003 after serving 15 years for a 1988 incident involving a 6-year-old girl in King County.
In that incident, Warning used a dog to lure the young victim into his car, then exposed himself to her, detectives said.
When she refused to cooperate, Warning covered her nose and mouth until she became cooperative. He then took her to a wooded area on the Sammamish Trail where he choked her into unconsciousness, according to court documents.
The girl was later found by hikers.
Warning is scheduled to be arraigned on July 30.
