Here-Here: Trendy Wendy Williams: The Days of being a Porn Star Are Over

From www.sfbg.com- Fielding your questions this month is AVN’s current “Transsexual Performer of The Year,” Wendy Williams. Check out some of her stuff and then send some questions here.

Trent B: What is the best place for a transsexual to live?
Williams: Um….the most progressive place in the U.S. is probably New York. Last year’s “AVN Transsexual Performer of The Year,” Allanah Starr, started a huge huge party trend there and so there’s a lot to do now…just parties and clubs where girls like us can go out and meet guys. Los Angeles is also a great place to be. I spend tons of time there. And then San Francisco, obviously. But that’s just America. There are plenty of great spots overseas too. London, for example. There’s a huge circuit there, mostly cross dressers and transvestites, but it’s still fun. There’s a spot called The Way Out Club in London that caters to girls like us. I love it there.

Lisa N: Do you feel more comfortable with other transsexuals?

Williams: No, I don’t care about that. I just hang out with my friends and they’re all mixed. I have a couple other transsexuals I hang out with, but that’s not really what I’m all about. I have a lot of straight male friends too. Seriously…it doesn’t matter. Gay guys, girls. Whatever.

Nicholas H: Now that we all have access to the basic tools used to make and distribute porn –a camera, sex organs, and a computer—can anyone be a porn star?

Williams: The days of being a porn star are over. I mean, it used to be that you would have to star in a ton of professionally produced and distributed films to be a “porn star,” but these days you can create your own celebrity and that’s pretty much what I’ve done. I update my forums weekly. I do my YouTube thing. I have all my personal websites, and of course, I’m on Facebook and MySpace.

I’m a new generation of porn star, I think. But that doesn’t mean anyone can be a porn star with a capital “P.” You have to put in a lot of work to make money doing this. You have to be an entrepreneur and you have to think about your target demographic and all that stuff. So, yes, you can film yourself fucking and throw it up online and people will watch it. But you’re not going to be a porn star. The Internet has also made it so that you can just walk in, do a little porn and then disappear. But those people aren’t porn stars either. They can do their thing and I can just sit back and relax because I’m in this for the long run. It seems like the Internet might be bad for someone like me because it increases the competition, but that’s not really the case. The Internet is great because my fan base is huge…and now, thanks to computers, they all have access to my work.
