Let's get this straight. The U.S. Army encourages implants but wants to ban hookers?

Germany- U.S. troops stationed in Germany are up in arms over a Pentagon proposal to make hiring a hooker punishable by dishonorable discharge and up to a year behind bars.

Although the policy would apply worldwide, soldiers serving in Germany note that prostitution is legal there.

"It would be different if it were some Third World country that had no jobs and no opportunity, and women were forced into it," complained Army Sgt. Adam Pastor, a new arrival at Rhein-Main Air Base.

"It's a little bit pushy to enforce that law here," he said.

Other military personnel and their families on the base largely agreed that Germany isn't the place to try to enforce anti-prostitution rules, according to theStars and Stripes newspaper. Hookers are taxed and given regular health checkups in the country.

Then there's the availability factor. The base is just minutes away from one of the largest red-light districts in the world, and working girls can rent their own rooms for the day in licensed brothels.

Airman 1st Class Gerard Garcia said the new proposal borders on cruel and unusual punishment.

"We have men who have been away from women and, of course, hormones have built up, especially in the single soldiers," he said. "I don't know what's going to happen, but I know it's not going to work from a psychological point of view."

Dana Molnar, a serviceman's wife, said the Pentagon is silly to fret over whether the troops are getting it on in Germany.

"It seems like we can spend our time worrying about more important things," she said.
