NEW ORLEANS — from www.wwltv.com – A New Jersey company that placed a controversial strip club advertisement along a busy stretch of interstate said it will take down the sign.

Several people have complained about the billboard, which is owned by Interstate Outdoor Advertising.

The advertisement for Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club shows one woman touching another in a way some said is inappropriate for that location

The billboard faces the Pontchartrain Expressway eastbound near the Broad Street overpass as commuters head towards downtown from western parts of the metro area.

Jeff Gerber, chief operating officer for Interstate Outdoor Advertising, said the ad could come down as early as Friday and be replaced with a different one for the Hustler Club.

WWL-TV had received complaints from drivers about the billboard, and just hours after a picture of the ad was put on WWL-TV’s Facebook page, hundreds of followers had left comments.

Metairie resident Ryan Gennusa said he has contacted state and local elected officials to get the billboard taken down.

“As a husband and father of four little children I am deeply concerned about the explicit nature the billboard depicts,” Gennusa said. “It is much more brazen than their typical billboards.”

Gennusa feels he is being harassed by the billboard every day on his way to work.

“If someone does not stand up to this now it will only get worse,” he said.

The Hustler Club has not returned a phone call for a comment.

The City of New Orleans hasn’t returned a message inquiring about possible billboard regulations.

Meanwhile, the Federal Communications Commission does not regulate billboard advertisements and suggested ads are left to the discretion of advertising agencies while the Federal Trade Commission said it only regulates deceptive and unfair advertisements, not what some consider inappropriate.
