COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - A Council Bluffs City Council member and Omaha firefighter union president is among six men arrested in a prostitution sting.
Council Bluffs Police Chief Ralph O'Donnell says Councilman Darren Bates, elected to the council in 2005, was arrested Tuesday.
Police say Bates and the others were arrested in a prostitution sting at a local hotel. They are charged with solicitation of prostitution, an aggravated misdemeanor.
City Attorney Dick Wade says an aggravated misdemeanor doesn't disqualify someone from holding office.
Bates is married with two children. He has served as the president of the Omaha Firefighters Union since 2007, and is a paramedic in the fire department.
