And even this might not be the last word, but Bill Margold [pictured] tells me that so far those being inducted into The Legends of Erotica, www.xxxdeepthroat.com in January include Stephanie Swift, Sunset Thomas, Shane and Tom Byron.
“They’re all confirmed plus there’ll be a tribute to Gerard Damiano,” he adds.
“It’ll be much the same we did with Linda Lovelace. I’m trying to get letters from people who worked with him- if not the people there themselves- to reflect on Damiano.”
Margold also anticipates more posthumous inductions.
Just recently Damiano was honored at the Beverly Cinema with a midnight showing of The Story of Joanna.
“There were about 40 people there, many of them couples, which was very nice,” says Margold.
“I read a very nice letter from Jamie Gillis and then the people basically sat in awe of the film. That movie is one of the top five of all time. It’s so powerful and extremely depressing. Plus a homosexual scene figures into the middle of it and the audience, of course, appropriately giggled which I though was rather interesting.”
Margold figures to be holding such showings maybe four times a year.
“I’m begging them to show Take Off [with Wade Nichols] if they can find it,” he adds.
“It’s my favorite all-time adult movie. Holiday and I always argued because his favorite was Misty Beethoven which he refers to as The Citizen Kane of adult films. But Take Off would be a wonderful movie to find. Even the print of Joanna we had was not in shape- it hopped around and looked like it was melting- these were never preserved. No one cared about the archives of X. But at least ‘Legends’ tries to.”
According to Margold, there will be only one male performer a year going in Legends from now on as well.
“The men in this business really have to earn their way into legend status,” he feels.
“And having a king with assorted queens makes it look better on stage. Minka will be on the stage for a third time; but she’s already been inducted. We’re just going through the formalities of figuring out what to do with her tits. She failed the first year. She could only get one in the cement and it flopped over everywhere.
“So we’re going to be putting a gold plated bra or something along that line to get Minka in. But she’s been in for two years, plus she’s also a lot of fun to have on the stage and to have a super tanker up there.”
And Margold doesn’t think there will be more than five inductees each year, hence.
“I’ve said this for a long time- we’re running out of real legends,” he stayes.
“If we put in the ones that are still overdue, then by the time we get to the people who came in the business after ’95 and ’98- some of them will go in. Hell, we haven’t even dealt with the three performers worth a damn out of the modern era and that’s Jameson, Patrick and Janine.”
“And when I inducted Jenna Jameson into the XRCO Hall of Fame, I said she was the last name-brand. So we’ve got to pick and choose and be real careful.”
If one is to consider this a scoop, then Margold reveals it by noting that Peter North will be next year’s male inductee.
“And that’s the only one I really want to commit to at this point and time.”
Heather Hunter had also been approached about going in this year but Margold thinks he’ll save her for next year provided she’s willing to do so. As future possibilities, Margold also includes Constance Money, Barbara Dare and, perhaps, Ashlyn Gere and Leslie Bovee.
“That would be really nice to find one of them,” he says.
“As I was fortunate last year to get Debi Diamond and the year before, Serena.”
Margold, in fact, could become his own reality TV show as the hunter of lost porn stars.
“But I don’t want to find them if they don’t want to be found,” he laughs.
“I found Tracey Adams and we genuflected as much as we could, but I guess she doesn’t want to do it. And it’s a shame because she would be the queen of the show if she did show up. But I’m not forcing her.”
The event will be held Friday night, January 9, at Showgirl Video in Las Vegas, approximately 8 o’clock.
