….Or maybe Jack Venice was guilty and got caught.
COLFAX – An adult film actor was convicted Friday night of raping a woman at a Washington State University sorority house last fall.
It took a Whitman County jury just under three hours to convict Christopher “Jack” Reid of one count of second-degree rape, two counts of residential burglary and one count of first degree burglary. He was found not guilty of attempted residential burglary.
The jury had received the case just before 6 p.m., a decision was announced at 8:40 p.m. and the verdict was read just after 9 p.m. in Whitman County Superior Court.
The Los Angeles-based porn actor had pleaded not guilty to breaking into the Kappa Alpha Theta house at WSU in September 2007 and raping a resident of the sorority.
According to police reports, a woman who was sleeping at the house awoke early on Sept. 13, 2007 to find two men in her room, who then fled. The woman told police she believes she was sexually assaulted in her sleep.
The victim testified on Tuesday that she recognized Reid from the incident, saying he was one of the two men that were in her room when the incident took place.
A second defendant in the case, Kyle Schott, pleaded guilty earlier this year in the case. He testified against Reid on Thursday, stating they had gone to Greek Row after being turned down for sex at various bars around Pullman.
Defense attorney Chris Bugbee said that his client, who he says is innocent, was singled out in this case simply because he has been open about the fact that he works in the porn industry. Bugbee said Reid had merely stopped in Pullman in between movie shoots to unwind.
But Whitman County Prosecutor Dennis Tracy argued Reid had gone to Pullman with the purpose of having sex with WSU students.
Reid, a Texas native and Iraq War veteran who works under the name “Jack Venice,” has made more than 80 adult films.
He will be sentenced on Dec. 5.
