SAN RAFAEL, Calif.—The son of a late San Francisco pornography mogul has been arraigned on charges that he murdered his ex-girlfriend and kidnapped their 1-year-old daughter.

Twenty-seven-year-old James “Rafe” Mitchell was arraigned Wednesday in Marin County Superior Court on five charges, including murder, assault and child abduction.

Authorities say Mitchell fatally beat 29-year-old Danielle Keller and abducted their daughter, Samantha, in Novato on Sunday. He was later arrested near Sacramento, and is being held without bail.

Mitchell didn’t enter a plea at Wednesday’s hearing, where his attorney asked for more time to review evidence. He’s scheduled to return to court on July 24.

Mitchell is the son of “Behind the Green Door” director Jim Mitchell, who co-owned an adult entertainment empire that included films and theaters.
