Arlington, Texas- Ron Jeremy, a legendary actor and spokesperson in the porn industry, and Susan G. Cole, author and playwright, will go head to head Thursday [at University of Arlington, Texas] in a pornography debate.

Despite the fact that this is a pornography debate and students have preconceived notions about porn, they should attend the event with open minds.

The two participants will talk about the effects of pornography and if it objectifies or hinders women. These are issues students should be aware of and form a serious opinion about. Sorry, the debate probably will not address issues of "Are those real?" or "How big is it?"

According to http://www.ron-jeremy.biography.ms, Jeremy has starred in more than 2,000 films to date and claims to have had sex with more than 4,000 women. He is considered to be one of, if not the biggest, names in the porn industry.

According to http://www.wolfmanproductions.com/cole.htm, Cole is a senior entertainment and book editor for NOW magazine, Canada's premiere news and entertainment weekly. She is also a columnist for the Canadian feminist magazine Herizons and has also been active in the gay community for more than 25 years.

In past few decades, the pornography industry has begun to strengthen its place in society and pop culture. Not all students watch porn, but they are witnessing its presence and effects on everyday life.

Pornography can be checked out in some movie rental stores and has an influence on television. With shows like "CSI" and "Nip/Tuck" people are exposed to sexual dialogue and sexual acts on public television. Students may not realize it, but they are watching pornography break its way into prime time television and should decide whether or not they're OK with that.
