from www.industry.bnet.com- Brace yourself — Kama-sutra, the first modern 3D porn film, is on its way. While director Marc Dorsel [pictured] and other adult industry big-wigs may have dreams of Avatar-like big budget openings, pornographers are going to have to think small to thrive in the new new media. In other words, Kama-sutra and future titles like it will have the biggest impact — and the most revenue — on mobile devices.

First, Gizmodo’s Jesus Diaz:

The first 3D porn full feature film made for modern stereoscopic TVs-those that use shutter eyeglasses-has arrived… Called Kama-sutra, it stars Brigitte Lahaie. Dorcel thinks that not all porn will be 3D, however. Some people will like it, others will prefer good old 2D. Being a fan of 8mm porn from the 60s, I agree.

The new movie is more Avatar than Alice in Wonderland. It doesn’t include women painted in blue — thankfully — but it uses actual 3D cameras and not 2D-to-3D post-processing — thankfully.

The problem? The Web is essentially dead to profitable porn. Pornography conglomerates are suing YouTube-inspired websites, a la the music industry a decade ago, and top performers are seeing their rates fall by half or two-thirds.

Fortunately for them, the fertile mobile space is pushing 3D hard:

* Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo is more paranoid than Apple when it comes to salacious content (Nintendo’s elaborate censorship history is in my book Porn & Pong), but its upcoming, glasses-free 3D mobile will no doubt encourage other, more liberal 3D gaming manufacturers to create an adults-only area for pornographic games and movies. Sony (SNE) has added 3D support to its PlayStation 3, but developers and publishers have shied away from making adult material for home consoles. The mobile space represents a solitary, private experience.

* Sharp’s 3D mobile video: Sharp’s exciting 3D cell phone video camera will support user movie creation which, in turn, will promote the viewing of 3D content — both amateur low-cost video and corporate premium content. It will be akin to YouTube and Hulu – provided the porn industry can prevent amateur sites from rebroadcasting its content for free.

* Google Tablet: Google’s (GOOG) Android platform is already a hotbed for pornographic entertainment (just ask Steve Jobs), but the upcoming Google Tablet, expected through Verizon (VZ), will totally open the floodgates. Pornographers are able to sneak onto the iPad via the Internet and attempt to charge for content, but I suspect it will be as successful as most paywall attempts on the traditional Internet — that it, not very. On the other hand, Google has created an ecosystem where adult content manufacturers can get paid — and where 3D pornographic content would be welcomed.

This week the controversial Sex.com domain was finally approved for sale, but it’s probably at its least valuable moment in the industry. The future of profitable pornography, and particularly 3D pornography, is in the consumer’s hands.
