LOS ANGELES -- A taxi driver suspected of sexually assaulting at least five women who got in his cab alone has been arrested, police said Thursday.

Eric Clay, 37, of Hollywood, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near Seventh Street and Central Avenue after a woman flagged down police and told them she saw a man in a taxicab who resembled a composite sketch of the suspect that authorities had been circulating, according to police.

The women were picked up near Central Avenue, Main Street and Sixth and Eighth streets between Aug. 22 and Dec. 22, police said.

Once inside the cab, they were taken to a location, where Clay allegedly stopped and sexually assaulted them inside the vehicle, police said.

When they got out of the cab, he drove away.

Clay allegedly drove and committed these crimes with "a legally marked seal and with a phone number and taxi light displayed," police said. The taxi was leased from an operational taxi company whose name was not released.
