from www.latimes.com - A Los Angeles City Council committee will meet Tuesday to consider ways to shield people from inadvertently seeing pornographic material at public libraries.
The issue arose after complaints to the council from patrons of the Chinatown Public Library who said that as they waited in line to check out books, they could see pornography being watched on a computer screen used by another customer.
The screen was also viewable by children, they said.
"We want to figure out the best way to prevent children and families from being able to see images that are pornographic in nature or offensive,'' said Councilman Ed Reyes [pictured], who introduced a motion to address the issue at the Arts, Parks, Health and Aging Committee meeting, according to City News Service.
"I don't want to make it more than what it is, but how many incidents have not been reported?'' Reyes asked. "Why not create a layout that allows screens and images to be shielded?''
