from www.wlwt.com – CINCINNATI — Downtown Cincinnati may soon double its number of Hustler stores, but they might not share the name.
Hustler publisher Larry Flynt is refurbishing an abandoned Seventh Street restaurant to open another Hustler Hollywood store — four blocks from the one his brother Jimmy owns on Elm Street.
The brothers have been fighting each other in business and in the courts for the last few years.
“Is it stressful? Is it hurtful? Is it unfortunate? It’s all of those things,” Jimmy Flynt’s attorney, Bob Hojnoski, told News 5’s John London.
But the staff at Madonna’s, a bar across the street from the new store, aren’t complaining about the new neighbor.
“Smut, religion, gambling, doesn’t matter. As long as there’s foot traffic, we should see an increase in business,” owner Don Wilson said.
“People have been talking about it and I am all for it. Anything that will bring business downtown, bring it on!” bartender Ginger Kuth said.
Larry Flynt has said that the new store would be operated by his daughter — if it opens.
Citizens For Community Values said it is mounting a new effort, pressuring authorities to strictly enforce zoning and obscenity laws they say the Flynts are violating.
“This is very typical of what happens when you do something you shouldn’t be doing,” Phil Burress said.
Meanwhile, Wilson jokingly said he’d be open to a bit of a partnership.
“In fact, we were all joking, ‘Maybe we should go over there and talk to him. Maybe get a lingerie show over here for happy hour or something,'” he said.
Larry Flynt’s store is expected to offer merchandise similar to what is sold in his brother’s store, which opened just over 10 years ago.
A federal court hearing on which brother can use the Hustler name is scheduled to take place in mid-October.
