from www.sunherald.com – Hustler faces $14,175 in fines for three violations, including failure to provide condoms or other protective equipment, according to a Division of Occupational Safety and Health citation provided to The Associated Press Wednesday.

Ex porn stars from Pink Cross Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to offering porn stars a way out, are satisfied that something is finally being done to stop the illegal and unsafe work practices of porn companies.

“They took our complaints seriously and enforced the laws,” says Shelley Lubben, www.adultcybermart.com/StoryRealShelleyLubbenStory.html former porn star and President of Pink Cross Foundation.

Complaints were made in August, 2009, by ex porn stars that joined with AIDS Healthcare Foundation as part of its ongoing campaign to require the use of condoms in porn films.

“I was a porn star living the glamorous life. Drug overdoses, herpes, suicide attempts and abuse at the hands of the porn industry,” said Lubben.

“In my time in the industry, I was forced to work on mostly male porn sets in private mansions where condoms were not allowed.”

Lubben isn’t the only passionate ex porn star to speak out. Ex porn stars who received help from Pink Cross Foundation found strength to join Lubben in her campaign to expose the industry’s illegal work practices.

“As I continued to do hardcore porn, I started catching STDs all the time,” said former porn actress and member of the Pink Cross Foundation, Michelle Avanti. “I believe that if condoms had been allowed to be used, I would not have suffered so many physical ailments and infections.”

“During my time as a porn star I’ve performed in a scene with numerous male performers and though I was assured that STD testing would be enough, tragically I caught Herpes. I sold my soul to the devil without even knowing it. Ironically, the movie I performed in was for Devil’s Films,” said Jan Merritt, former porn actress and member of the Pink Cross Foundation.

On behalf of former and current adult film workers Lubben urges California to take swift action against the non-compliant adult film industry and to aggressively enforce the current safety and health laws or shut the industry down.

Lubben, who starred in about 30 movies from 1993-94 and caught herpes and HPV while in the porn industry now serves as President of the Pink Cross Foundation. To learn more about Shelley Lubben please visit www.shelleylubben.com
