Lawsuit: Oakland Raiders Coach Accused of Assault, Violence Against Women

from www.courthousenews.com – A former Oakland Raiders coach says head coach Tom Cable broke his jaw and several teeth at a summer training camp and threatened to kill him. Randy Hanson claims that Cable’s behavior was “not out of character,” since the coach has a “documented public record” of violence against women.

In his complaint in Alameda County Court, Hanson says Cable attacked him without provocation on Aug. 5, 2009, at training camp in Napa.

He claims that Cable grabbed him and threw him into a table against the wall while screaming “I’ll fucking kill you; I’ll fucking kill you.” Hanson says the attack broke his jaw and several teeth.

He claims that “Raiders senior management were made aware of Cable’s willful, intentional and malicious attack on Hanson shortly after it occurred, and that “the Raiders have ratified and adopted as its own the willful, intentional and malicious acts of Cable against Hanson.

“Shortly after Cable’s attack of Hanson, the Raiders removed Hanson from coaching and refused to permit him to return to coaching”.

The complaint adds: “Cable’s attack was not out of character. Cable has several times been accused of violence against women and has a documented public record of such conduct.”

Hanson claims that the hospital workers who treated him had to notify police because of possible “criminal liability” for the attack. He says he refused to identify Cable to the investigating officer because he was “still profoundly loyal to the Raiders in spite of Cable’s actions”.

Hanson demands punitive damages from Cable and the Raiders for assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He is represented by John McGuinn with McGuinn, Hillsman & Palefsky of San Francisco.
