Lawyers Want Joe Francis Tax Trial Moved to California

RENO — Lawyers for “Girls Gone Wild” founder Joe Francis want a federal judge to move the soft porn filmmaker’s tax evasion trial from Reno to Southern California.

U.S. District Judge Brian Sandoval, after a hearing Monday, said he would rule at a later date.

Francis, 35, is scheduled to stand trial in August.

Francis’ lawyers argue the trial should be moved because the tax returns in question were prepared and likely signed in Southern California. They also say most witnesses live there.

Government attorneys, however, counter that Francis “held himself out” to be a Nevada resident, and that one his companies is incorporated in Nevada.
