Porn Valley- Bill Margold hosts the annual Legends of Erotica Show, www.xxxdeepthroat.com in Las Vegas which is scheduled this year for 8 pm, Friday night, January 6, at Show Girls (631 South Las Vegas Blvd.)
Margold thanked me for putting up an item which he wrote in the LA Xpress. http://adultfyi.com/read.aspx?ID=13595
"That paper allows me to run whatever I want," Margold explains. "They give me a chance to live out my life on the back page of a paper read by 100,000 people." In the story, Margold writes about the women he believed to be his mother.
"She was unbelievably charismatic," states Margold. "But she was not a good mother. She did inspire me to write and for that I will always thank her for. But when I got into the business in 1972, basically, that was the end of her. And in 1980 she died." According to what he wrote, Margold isn't sure whether it was his aunt who was his real mother.
"Quite frankly I really don't know who my mother was and quite frankly I don't particularly care," he says. "I don't want to know what kind of biological time clock I'm living under. Better not to know. But my father died early if he was, indeed, even my father. But I suspect he was. There was something wrong with that whole birth certificate and everything."
Getting to the Legends show, Margold notes the passing of Dr. Sam Stetson this week.
"I was giving the first Jim Holliday Hardcore Herodotus award to Dr. Sam Stetson," said Margold. "And he [Stetson] died yesterday. It was either yesterday or the day before. He was dying anyway and that's the reason why I was giving out the award. He probably wasn't going to be there anyway but at least he knew going to his cremation that he was going to get this honor. That award has been created and I'll have to figure out who to give it to every year from now on. Tragically, this is an award from a dead man to a dead man. That ain't good."
The list of inductees this year is headed up by Georgina Spelvin. Margold had lunch with her recently.
"And she's still Georgina," he says. "She's a good human being and I had Gloria Leonard write up something very nice about her. And Georgina is going to be inducted by her 'gentleman'- a nice little old man." Margold says he went to visit Spelvin recently and watched the Inside Deep Throat Documentary together with her.
"It was cool watching it with her saying, I remember Harry Reems. I remember Marilyn Chambers. You don't get that kind of living history that often any more." On an amusing note, Margold says Spelvin was set to be inducted a couple of years ago but didn't want to travel to Vegas.
"Two years ago she said to me I don't want to come to Las Vegas- I said why. She said because I'm old. I said that's why we're inducting you. You're legendary. Old has nothing to do with it. This year she said to me the reason why she's doing it is that the money being raised at Legends totally goes to protecting the adult welfare [PAW]. When I explained what that was to her, she said that's the reason I'm coming up."
Margold notes that Spelvin came out of retirement to appear in the updated Devil in Miss Jones directed by Paul Thomas.
Thomas is also being inducted as well as Jody Maxwell. The two "new kids on the block," according to Margold are Tiffany Mynx and Cara Lott.
"And Fred Lincoln is being inducted by Ron Sullivan who was inducted last year- that was cool."
Margold says the Tiffany Mynx induction is as much of an additional homage to Holliday, since she was one of Holliday's angels.
"One will be inducted every year," says Margold. "Last year was Shayla LaVeaux. The year before that was Selena Steele."
