from www.thirdage.com - The Legionellosis, or Legionnaire’s disease, that sickened hundreds of guests at a Playboy Mansion fundraiser in February has been traced to a whirlpool spa, according to Los Angeles County public health officials.
The sometimes fatal disease is transmitted via contaminated aerosols generated in hot tubs that are not properly cleaned.
According to Los Angeles County public health officials, a number of people attending the fundraiser came down with a respiratory illness. Sixty-nine of the attendees got sick the same day. Over 100 people ended up with a fever and at least one other symptom, such as aches, coughing and shortness of breath.
Los Angeles County public health officials contacted 439 people total.
