LINCOLN PARK, Michigan — from www.thenewsherald.com- One of the richest men in the worldwide adult entertainment business was in town over the weekend celebrating the grand opening of a strip club bearing his name.

Hundreds of people packed the Larry Flynt Hustler Club, 980 John A. Papalas Drive, to meet famed pornographer Larry Flynt.

The 67-year-old was the guest host at the glitzy Friday night opening of the $7 million club.

Flynt spent his nearly 90 minutes at the club meeting with fans individually, signing autographs and posing for photos. He then took to the microphone to quickly address the standing-room-only crowd.

“It’s my honor to be here tonight for the grand opening of the Hustler Club Detroit,” he said, promising to return to the club the next night to conclude his guest appearances.

Tony Ricardo, 24, was among the fans who lined up to meet Flynt.

“That’s the man right there,” Ricardo said afterward. “I’ve never really met someone famous before and Larry Flynt’s got to be one of the coolest ones I’d want to meet.”

Because of Flynt’s failing health, a member of his security detail had to help him drink by holding a glass of water to his mouth. When he left, Flynt was driven away in a black Cadillac Escalade. In 2001, he listed his net worth at $400 million.

Flynt is confined to a wheelchair after an assassination attempt on him and his attorney outside a Georgia courthouse in 1978.

A white supremacist serial killer confessed to the crime, saying he was upset by an interracial photo set that appeared in one of Hustler’s magazines.

Joseph Paul Franklin has never been charged in the shooting because he already is on death row for other murder convictions.

The club opened in December, immediately after a judge cleared the way after a long legal battle with the city. It opened without much fanfare, awaiting its official grand opening with Flynt.

The club attracted a few protesters on opening night in December, but none were reported this weekend.
