Porn Valley- The documentary Inside Deep Throat has a bonus extra about the time Linda Lovelace, www.arrowfreedom.com came out to Hollywood and did a film titled Linda Lovelace for President.
The movie basically sucked and Lovelace’s sister is interviewed as saying so. According to the piece, Lovelace came out to La La Land with her cat, Adolf Hitler, and the idea was she was going to continue a career beyond porn. Hugh Hefner apparently set up Lovelace with the former June 1960 Playmate Delores Wells. It was Wells’ responsibility to set up Lovelace with an office, an agent, an accountant and a secretary
“Huge Hefner recommended me,” says Wells. “He said I have the perfect girl for you.” According to Wells, when Lovelace came to California she stayed at Hefner’s place
“She had never seen anything like that in her life,” Wells continues. “Anything you wanted to eat, 24 hours a day- it was quite overwhelming for her.” Chuck Traynor, who was married to Lovelace, put her in the hands of David Winters and it was Winters’ responsibility to see that Lovelace got noticed.
“She just bared herself to me- she was a product and I molded her as I wanted her to be,” says Winters. Wells says Winters overwhelmed Lovelace with his gentleman ways. “She started dressing different in Victorian dresses. He [Winters] just charmed the shit out of her.”
Lovelace also appeared in a play called Pajama Tops which folded as soon as it opened.”It opened and closed the first night,” says Barbara Boreman, Lovelace’s sister. Winters admits the reviews were horrendous.
“I don’t know what kind of an actress she was,” states Boreman. “But it didn’t last too long.” Winters said he was trying everything he could to make Lovelace a star. This included the Linda Lovelace for President film which bombed.
“The funniest part of it was when the hydrant pee’d on the dog,” says Boreman. “That was probably the only thing about that movie that was any good. Why she did it I don’t know.”
Winters said he and Lovelace both shared a vision to create an incredible movie star. But Wells says nothing pretty much happened after that in Lovelace’s career.
