Porn Valley- DK has nothing to do with the condition of your teeth. DK is short for Derrick King. He’s an agent, maybe a manager. I never really figured out that distinction. But I ran into him earlier this week on Cytherea’s shoot, Female Ejaculation Nation. After a year off, DK’s decided to get back into the business and go through the whole rigamarole all over again. Dealing with shit. Dealing with girls who flake. Girls who sometimes lie through their ass. In fact that’s what prompted our having lunch today. One of his girls shined a photo shoot. That was always Jim Holliday’s expression for a girl who flaked. “She shined Holliday, Gene.”
DK tells me he lined up a photographer. Had a makeup girl. Had a great location. Sounded like he spent some buckolas to set this up. Except the girl- Rachel Love- didn’t show up. I hear Love is the girlfriend of Dirty Harry who, in turn, is the uncle of TT Boy. I met Harry a couple of years ago at the old VCA sound stage which was no longer the VCA sound stage at that time but had passed hands to John Gallo. And there’s another story when all the legal uproar settles.
As it turns out, Harry’s girlfriend decided she had other plans. I’m hearing a couple of stories. One was a message from DK this morning telling me Love had been popped on a parole violation and that the shoot was cancelled. I was supposed to interview her, so I called when I heard that. But DK was being more circumspect with people standing around. He was giving me some other reason for the no-show but suggested we get together for lunch instead and talk.
At lunch DK’s telling me Love had to be in Sacramento for something that sounded legal and serious but she was supposed to have been back. Never showed. Taking a harder line now than he has in the past, DK tells me that’s all for Rachel. No stories. Doesn’t want to hear it. Then DK proceeds to tell me his story how he was a sap, a sucker, a patsy, a fall guy to a lot of industry sob stories. Girls took advantage of him. I’m hearing some great shit like how Amber Rayne got him for a cellphone and ran up some major money on him then took off. Then how DK ran into her at a Sprint store later on, Rayne now coming off with attitude towards him and about the business and how she’s away from all that.
Except Rayne wasn’t away from shit. She was now specializing in B&E and Jon Blatt’s car was one of her E’s. I hear Autumn did some time for that. DK pretty much describes Autumn as a consummate story teller and bullshit artist.
DK was telling me another time about when he had a bunch of porn girls living at his house. I only remember Tony T, but DK’s telling me there was Lucy Lee or Lei. There was Brook Lynn. There was another girl. Apparently they went to a party together one night, then, when they got back got into a catfight outside the house. There was a lot of yelling. A lot of noise. Shoes being thrown. Neighbors really appreciated it. DK then uses the illustration of Brook Lynn as to where he went wrong with all this. She had it so good, he says, she never wanted to work, just sit around the house. Shoot porn? Who wants to shoot porn when you can watch Springer and have everything paid for. DK recalls another instance with Lucy. She was set up for a shoot with College FuckFest. Something about a limo ride and how the two other girls in the shoot were getting the bulk of the attention. Lucy couldn’t deal with the stress of not having undivided homage paid her.
DK says he developed an interest in the porn industry when he was married. And as soon as he got divorced decided he wanted to be a performer. He signed up with World Modeling, but, according to DK, it was tough for a black guy at that time to get into the inner circle occupied by the Sean Michaelses, the Mr. Marcuses, the Julian St. Jacqueses. But he hung around sets, struck up an acquaintance with Chante and she started introducing her to her girlfriends. She had a lot of girlfriends. DK took a lot of Polaroids. And because he had a lot of Polaroids and now a lot of connections to pretty girls, DK was being seen in another light. Plus the fact that Chante couldn’t drive because she had some auto mishap in Florida, DK began driving her around sets. DK lends the impression that he got sucked into the whole driving girls around to sets vibe. Doesn’t sound like he went out of his way to discourage it, though.
I ask DK if any girls ever traded sex for cellphones. He says, no, that it was pretty much offered without his asking.
I’ve always known DK to be a very polite, very respectful man, respectful of history he’s shared with people in the business. Unlike some other punks who’ve been in the business 18 minutes and think they’re where it’s at. DK hastens to remind me of the first time we met, how some scandalous tale was put out about him soliciting blowjobs. How World Modeling put that story out.
DK says he was very impressed that I took the time to find him and get his side of the story. I remember when DK had an office at John Bowen’s old studio in North Hollywood. DK remembers the time he and I were over Bowen’s for Christmas dinner, always liked John, says DK.
Knowing he’s a straight shooter- at least when I put a question to him- I have to ask DK what went down with Venus since I talked to him earlier in the week. Venus no-showed the Cytherea shoot. Because he is or was her business manager, DK got in the middle of the drama, except now DK’s putting out the story that the best for all concerned is if he distances himself from that situation. Venus is repped by L.A. Direct, but I’m hearing things that sound like an ego war and one side elected to disarm. I tell DK I heard that Mike Moz got fired from L.A. Direct, that there’s got to be some story there. DK says he likes Moz that he’s a real straight up guy.
Venus then rings DK. She tells him her shoot’s winding up and asks if he’ll go Christmas shopping with her. He’s very touched by the gesture. He sees this as, wow, something special that someone would ask you to do something like that. I said I get goosebumps whenever I’m accompanied to a liquor store. You get the impression that DK could talk all afternoon about Venus. “She’s very special to me,” he keeps repeating as he weaves an intricate tale of her history in the business, when she started out only doing girl-girl scenes. He remembers the moment when she called him to say that she was now going to do boy-girl. Only in this business would you get emotional over an instance like that.
Except maybe when you walk into the offices of Extreme Associates, the home of the ass milkshake. DK recounts when he first started doing business with Extreme, how he and Luciano became buddies. “He’ll always be Luciano to me, not Michael Steffano,” says DK. “That name fits him.” DK’s business logo is a lion’s head, and when he ran into Luciano just recently he said Looch told him that he wanted to hear the lion roar again.
