claims that Deep Throat’s Robert Interlandi is “Probably the Most Traveled Marketing Man in the Business”. While Interlandi certainly does get around…I think I have him beat. And by a mile. Or a few tens of thousands of miles.
My marketing travels began just over a year ago. I started by visiting stores in Los Angeles, then moved onto San Diego. From there I went to the “Inland Empire” AKA San Bernardino and surrounding areas. Then it was on to San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose and that area. While there, I had a car wreck that laid me up for about 3 days, before continuing my travels. I then went to Sacramento, and made a quick trip over to Reno, NV. I then had to go back to San Francisco to deal with the wrecked car, before heading up to northern California.
I went to Eureka and Humboldt County (where they grow a LOT of pot), and then headed into Oregon. I visited all the major cities in Oregon, and even made my way over to Bend. Then I headed north to Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA. I then made a major right turn and went east to Yakima, WA, before heading back west to all the major Washington cities including Seattle. Then I headed east to Spokane, across Idaho and into Montana. I then went southwest into Idaho and eventually made my way South into Utah. I then drove to Texas for Christmas, then drove back across the southwest to Los Angeles, so that I could fly on a plane to Las Vegas for the January show. After that, it was back to Texas to load up my fiance for the move to Los Angeles, where I spent about a month before heading out on the road in the PornNewz RV.
From Los Angeles we went into Arizona, hitting all the big cities therein. We then traveled to New Mexico and then into West Texas. I traveled the entire state of Texas, even down to the Mexican border, and then up to San Antonio, Austin (what’s up Dreamers!) and then to Dallas. We then went back over to the northwest of Texas and into Oklahoma. After a brief time in Oklahoma, we drove towards Colorado, making a quick stop in Santa Fe, NM. We covered Colorado, and then went into Wyoming, then South Dakota and then North Dakota. Really gotta see the Crazyhorse Memorial if you’re ever in South Dakota.
From ND we went into Minnesota and then over to Wisconsin. Saw all the stores in Wisconsin and then headed down to Illinois. Spent quite a bit of time seeing all the stores in Chicago as well as a few in northern Indiana, and during my stay there, I had to make 2 separate trade show trips…one to Phoenix, and one to Las Vegas. After Vegas I drove to Los Angeles to pick up my car that was in storage there, and then proceeded to DRIVE from LA to Chicago in 3 days.
After Chicago, we headed south to central Illinois, seeing stores in Springfield, etc. From there it was down to southern Illinois (where I grew up), and then over to St. Louis…home of the world’s greatest baseball franchise.
After St. Louis we went to Memphis, TN. Shortly after stopping in Memphis, I had to fly back out to Los Angeles. From LA I flew to Connecticut for a trade show. After the trade show, I made a quick trip up to Maine…before flying back to Memphis. From Memphis I drove to Little Rock, AR…which is where I am at now.
And I’m only part of the way through with my travels.
So……I defy you to show me someone who has traveled more than me in this business especially in the past year.
* Most travelled marketing man? I believe that title belongs to me.
