One assumes that if you missed this New Year’s special on HBO, there’ll be another 58 opportunities to catch it during the upcoming weeks.
CARSON CITY, Nev. [ www.thenaughtyamerican.com ] — A group of musical prostitutes – and their pimp — are putting the “ho” back in “showbiz.”
Working girls are turning into dancing girls for ‘Cathouse: The Musical,’ a musical debuting Jan. 1 on HBO.
That’s the trick being attempted by Dennis Hof, the owner of the Moonlight Bunny Ranch in Carson City, Nev., and 15 of his working girls as part of “Cathouse: The Musical,” an hour-long sexual song-and-dance show debuting Tuesday, Jan. 1, at midnight on HBO.
Hof, who also stars on the HBO series “Cathouse,” says the musical has been in the works for about a year ever since Sheila Nevins, producer of the network’s “American Undercover” series, came up with the idea.
“She told me, ‘These girls are so smart, so talented, I want to do a musical,’” Hof said. “Then she asked me if I could sing as well. I told her, ‘Hey, I slept with 11 out of the 13 girls in church choir – of course, I can sing.’”
The show flashes back between scenes at the Bunny Ranch’s bar and bedrooms and the stage of the opera house in Virginia City, Nev., and features Ranch regulars like Bunny Love, Eden 38DD and Brooke Taylor [pictured], singing songs like “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” “Let’s Misbehave,” and “I Know What Boys Like.”
Folks expecting cheap laughs at the expense of the hookers will either be disappointed or pleasantly surprised since Hof says no expense was spared to put on a good show.
“Some of the women are dancers – either classically trained or as strippers,” Hof said. “Plus, we hired quality people to choreograph the dance numbers, design the sets and some singing coaches as well.”
Of course, some of the talent had some tricks up their teddies.
“Brooke Taylor amazed us,” Hof said. “We didn’t know this, but she has a degree in music and music therapy, and can play five or six instruments. She has perfect pitch! In fact, I’m thinking of requiring her to sing to every man who hires her at the Bunny Ranch.”
Apparently, her performance impressed HBO execs enough that they are sending her to a Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp in February to form a band with Brian Wilson, Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and members of AC/DC. Hof jokes: “She probably met a lot of these guys when they stopped off at the Bunny Ranch while on tour.”
