New “John” Wrinkle: Man Posted Bond for Strangers in Exchange for Sex

Cincinnati- A man is accused of using court records as a way to find victims for sex crimes. An alert judge stopped him in his tracks. Jason Lee is a registered sex offender. He is accused of looking up women on the Clerk of Court’s website. Lee is now behind bars on un-related charges.

So far, Lee is accused of posting bond for two different women, women he never met before, but the move was not an act of goodwill, there was an ulterior motive.

“After 21 years up here, this little bell went off and I said, what are you doing here, and he said he posted her bond.”

Looking somewhat suspicious, 28-year-old Jason Lee sat in the back of the court room when the defendant made a dramatic claim.

Judge Nadine Allen: “Ms Burnelle blurted out that he had forced her to have sex with his friend, who then supplied Jason Lee with drugs.”

A jaw-dropping outburst even for an experienced judge, like Nadine Allen, who took quick action immediately after the outburst.

“I just said, you know what, that’s a crime, arrest that man right now, hold him because that sounds like rape and it also sounds like importuning, sounds like pimp activity.”

Caressa Brunelle may not have been chosen randomly off the county website. The 20-year old woman has a history of drug charges and prostitution.

“She’s a cute girl, but she took the bad road.”

Brunelle’s neighbor is surprised by the accusations.

“It’s kind of unbelievable. I wouldn’t believe it, if she came and told me.”

The county provides access to public records on the internet, a typically helpful tool some feel is becoming a search engine for the sex trade.

“When you put together that he’s a sexual predator, cruising the internet, posting bond for strangers, it starts to sound like a ring to me and it also sounds like there could be a sex slave trade going on right here through the internet.”

Despite the best intentions, the website cannot protect those under arrest.

Greg Hartmann, Hamilton County Clerk of Courts: “The information is public…public resource.”

The county website can be a helpful tool when looking for babysitter or daycare workers, because it gives people the chance to search a criminal history, but like many other things, it can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

Jason Lee is being held on five counts of deception to obtain a dangerous drug. He is not facing any charges with the bond for sex claims. The sheriff’s office says it is aware of the case and will pursue charges, if the alleged victims cooperate. Right now, Caressa Brunelle is not helping investigators. She’s still in jail on domestic violence and drug charges.
