POCOLA, Oklahoma – Police expected to work until 5:30 this morning taking inventory at Adult World in Pocola after serving a warrant Monday evening.

Led by the Pocola Police Department, officers with the Pocola, Panama and Spiro police departments, as well as agents with the district attorney’s office, effectively shut down operations at the sexually oriented business shortly after 6 p.m.

Pocola Police Chief Eric Helms said about 10 people were inside when the warrant was served, including at least one employee who was cooperating and several customers who left immediately. The raid was aimed at closing the business, he said.

“It’s pretty much closed at this time, and we’re conducting inventory,” Helms said. Financial records, money, videos and items from a video arcade area were among the articles to be seized.

Pocola police Sgt. John Hancock said an investigation had been going on for about three weeks, and arrests would come later in connection with crimes such as sexual assault and indecent or lewd acts.

Pocola police patrolman and investigator Raymond Smith said more than 40 arrests are expected.

POCOLA, Okla. — A Hometown neighborhood is celebrating after an adult video store closed its doors at the hands of police.

After several weeks of undercover investigations, Pocola police raided Adult World, accusing store owners of violating several Oklahoma obscenity laws. Police are still at the store, several hours after the 6 p.m. raid.

Officers said they could be there all night investigating.

Police said that for nearly a month, undercover officers investigated numerous complaints. During those investigations, officers said they determined that the store was selling what they believe to be illegal videos and magazines.

Officers said the store also had back rooms allegedly used for lewd sexual activities. During their investigation, officers said they witnessed more than 40 different people allegedly involved in sex acts at the store.

During the Monday night raid, officers from several agencies took inventory and seized items, which will be destroyed.

“This is trash, and I hope this is the end of it for our community and for the Christian community and everybody out here. I hope this is the end of it,” said Pocola Police Chief Eric Helms.

No arrests were made during the raid. Officers said their only goal was to confiscate the pornography and shut the store’s doors.
