OKTO Payments, a payment service provider for complex eCommerce sectors, has appointed Marcos Techera as Managing Director for Latin America (LATAM). Techera will lead the company’s operations and commercial growth in the region.

Leadership Appointment in Latin America

The appointment of Marcos Techera as Managing Director for Latin America was announced on September 22, 2026. Techera will be responsible for the Group’s operations and commercial growth across Latin America. He will collaborate with OKTO’s local leadership in Brazil, South Latin America, and Northern Latin America.

This appointment occurs at a significant time for OKTO Payments in Latin America. The company has established local payment rails, developed compliance and regulatory expertise in each market, and implemented treasury and liquidity management, alongside domestic and cross-border settlement capabilities. Techera’s focus will be on advancing the company’s infrastructure and capabilities, aiming to translate them into commercial performance for merchants and further expand in Latin America.

A company representative stated that Techera’s focus "will be on taking the company's infrastructure and capabilities even further, translating them into strong commercial performance for merchants while expanding further in Latin America." The representative also noted that in Latin America, commercial outcomes are influenced by how a transaction is routed and settled locally, as well as the strength of the merchant relationship. Filippos Antonopoulos, founder and CEO of OKTO Payments, stated that the company has spent years building local infrastructure across Latin America and with Techera on board, they will build on that foundation to create greater value for merchants.

Techera's Background and Expertise

Marcos Techera brings over 15 years of executive leadership experience in fintech, global payment infrastructure, and cross-border solutions for high-volume ecosystems. He joins OKTO Payments from OneKey Payments, where he served as Global CEO. Prior to that, he was Chief Operating Officer at Directa24/AstroPay, where he was involved in operational scaling and market expansion across the region.

Techera is a Computer Systems Engineer by training. His background includes technical depth in payments and routing optimization, combined with a history of scaling payment networks in emerging markets. A company representative highlighted that this combination is deliberate, as commercial outcomes in Latin America depend on both the engineering of money movement and the commercial needs of merchants. Antonopoulos commented that Techera has managed payments in the region from both an engineering and commercial perspective, understanding both aspects deeply.

Techera stated that OKTO has established local licenses, local rails, and local banking relationships in each market, which takes years to build. He added that this foundation allows the company to compete on factors such as approval rates, cost to serve, settlement speed, and control over money. He also noted that OKTO has built a talented team market by market alongside its infrastructure. Techera’s focus is to build on both the team and infrastructure to achieve measurable commercial performance for merchant partners.
