NDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Pacers guard Stephen Jackson [pictured] fired shots in the air, apparently in self-defense, after he was hit by a car outside a strip club early Friday.
Indiana Pacers guard Stephen Jackson was treated at an Indianapolis hospital Thursday after being hit by a car outside a strip club where he fired a gun in the air.
Pacers Coach Rick Carlisle said Jackson and his teammates Jamaal Tinsley, Marquis Daniels and Jimmie Hunter committed an “error in judgment” by staying out late during training camp. No one was seriously injured.
The police said the disturbance began with an argument inside the club involving patrons and players. The players said they left and some patrons followed. Sgt. Matthew Mount, a spokesman for the police, said Jackson fired five shots from a pistol outside the club after he was punched in the mouth and hit by a car that sent him onto the hood. Officers were searching for the car, and three men were sought.
The police said a small amount of marijuana was found in the passenger-side door of Tinsley’s car. Sergeant Mount said that no arrests were made because the police could not determine who had the marijuana.
The N.B.A. spokesman Tim Frank said the league was monitoring the situation. Tinsley and Daniels also had guns in their cars, and all three armed players had permits, Sergeant Mount said.
