NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Pete Rose, Jr., the son of baseball's all-time hits leader, says he is pleased with the one-month prison sentence handed down yesterday in Nashville. A federal judge sentenced him for distributing a steroid alternative to his minor league teammates.

Rose faced up to two years in prison and a $1 million fine.

The former Chattanooga Lookouts player will also have to serve five months home detention.

Rose pleaded guilty November seventh to distributing GBL, a drug he used as a sleep aid, to some of his teammates at the Lookouts, the AA affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.

The judge said he issued the lighter sentence because Rose was a first-time offender and played a minor role in a federal investigation into a GBL trafficking organization.
