WASHINGTON - A man who lured young girls into a life of prostitution has been sentenced to life in prison under a D.C. human trafficking law.

Carlos Curtis was sentenced Friday after being convicted more than a year ago.

He was the first person to be prosecuted for juvenile trafficking under the law, passed in 2000.

Prosecutors say it's a key tool in the effort to crack down on child prostitution and pornography.

Prosecutors say Curtis took a troubled 12-year-old girl from Brooklyn, New York, to Washington, where he enlisted adult prostitutes to teach her their trade.

The judge in the case told him he should suffer for a lifetime, just like his victims.
