Hollywood- [dailybreeze.com]- Attorneys for the landlords of the Knitting Factory Hollywood will ask a judge today for an order blocking the club from hosting a “major porn party” touting the release of two X-rated films, claiming such an event would violate the venue’s lease.
Street Retail West 7 filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court Monday, alleging breach of contract. The suit claims the managers of the Knitting Factory violated their lease by hosting adult entertainment parties and showing pornographic movies.
No one with the Knitting Factory was available for immediate comment.
Lawyers for the landlords will ask a judge to issue a temporary restraining order to stop the club from hosting on Saturday what is billed as the official premiere party featuring “Not the Bradys XXX” and “Spunkd: The Movie.”
The club, at 7021 Hollywood Blvd., has advertised the event as an “Official X-Rated Premiere Party,” the suit states.
After Knitting Factory landlords found out about Saturday’s event, which the suit describes as a “major porn party,” they learned the club has hosted similar events in the recent past, the suit states.
The establishment threw a party in March 2006 touting the release of a DVD called “Sex Z Pictures Rock ‘N Porn XXX” and hosted “Los Angeles Erotica Film Fest 2007” in September, according to the lawsuit.
In addition to the showing of adult films, the club routinely violates other parts of the lease agreement by allowing patrons to line up in common areas — impeding pedestrian traffic — and in front of another Street Retail West 7 tenant, DSW shoes, discouraging customers from entering the store, according to the suit.
The club’s patrons also have vandalized DSW’s property while in line, the suit states.
The Knitting Factory also has disobeyed an order from the city to operate as an upscale restaurant and supper club and not be an entertainment venue, according to the suit.
The club was started in New York City by Michael Dorf and Bob Appel in 1987, and a West Coast club opened a few years later.
