Panama City, Florida- State Attorney Steve Meadows says the charges against Girls Gone Wild mogul Joe Francis should not be dismissed because of a video tape Meadows showed to an ABC news reporter.
Meadows categorically denies the videotape he showed to reporter Martin Beshir of Nightline was child pornography. Francis’ defense attorney accused Meadows of prosecutorial misconduct for showing the tape and wants the local court to throw out the charges against Francis.
Francis was arrested here five years ago during a spring break visit by his Girls Gone Wild crew. The videotape shows two underage girls in a sexual act in a shower. Meadows says Beshir was shown an edited version, with the girls fully clothed. The video was eliminated leaving only the audio when the girls began to disrobe.
Meadows defends the two interviews he has granted on the case, saying they were necessary to counteract the lies and misstatements made by Francis during a national media interview blitz.
The state attorney also says Francis used an internet and newspaper ad blitz to try to discredit the local court and prosecution.
