Monroe, Kentucky – Hustler’s Jimmy Flynt wants to build another Interstate 75 adult entertainment store in Lexington, where, as he did here, he faces opposition.

Flynt – brother of Hustler magazine founder Larry Flynt and business partner in the company’s adult entertainment, retail and publishing empire – manages the Hustler of Hollywood store at the I-75 and Ohio 63 interchange in Monroe. It was opened in late 2000 as a prototype for a national chain of Hustler retail outlets.

Flynt is now trying to win zoning approval to build another, larger adult store at the I-75 and Winchester Road interchange just southeast of Lexington. He said the success of the Monroe store led to a national chain that now includes businesses in San Diego, New Orleans, San Francisco and Hollywood, and has inspired him to try for a new store in Kentucky.

“Monroe was the model, but this one will be bigger and better,” said Flynt. He added that I-75 locations are particularly attractive for his type of business, with high volumes of traffic traveling by.

But first he must win approval from city officials, who Friday are scheduled to consider his zoning request. Helping oppose him is Flynt’s longtime Greater Cincinnati foe – Citizens for Community Values president Phil Burress.

Burress, who heads the Sharonville, Ohio-based anti-pornography group, was recently invited to Lexington to rally opponents of Flynt’s latest retail expansion.

“The Flynts always want to be near an interstate interchange. … These are places for transient people and their dirty little secret, not the locals who live nearby,” said Burress.
