“So many things are developing and going on in the business,” Rob Black was saying on his Tuesday show.
“Thursday by midnight if the bill [AB640] to mandate condoms does not hit the floor, that bill will be shelved until December. If that should happen and Mike Gatto does not release this bill, the bill will be on the shelf and itâs back to the beginning.”
The point Black was also making in all of this was the fact that assemblyman Isadore Hall was contacted by porn performer Keiran Lee who asked him why performers weren’t being heard from in the development of this bill.
Black, probably unbeknownst to Lee who was enjoying the fast times at Ridgemont High, pointed out that porn performers have been airing their gripes for over a year and where was Lee this whole time.
According to Black, regardless of whether the bill was shelved until December, condoms would still have to be used in Los Angeles and that productions would likely be conducted in Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena and Orange County.
Unless ordinances were initiated in those cities similar to Simi Valley.
“I canât imagine Aids Healthcare Foundation doesnât have lawyers that would be stirring up the people in those areas. Youâll see these other places that will enact city ordinances that will be exactly like in Simi Valley.
“Thatâs where weâre at,” said Black.
“AHF has this phantom ghost according to Diane Duke and Christian Mann and heâs just hanging out there. Gattoâs office isn’t returning calls. Even if itâs a case of crabs itâs going to be on your shoulders, Gatto.
“While thatâs going on youâve got performers [Lee] that are tweeting Isadore Hall and saying it would be nice if you talked to us performers. Can you believe the arrogance of people in our business?
“You have a performer that is tweeting Isadore Hall saying it would be nice if you talked to performers. Hall goes, weâve talked to dozens of people.
“These people are morons. Mr. Hall, please donât respond to them. This has been going on for over a year- theyâre had car washes and bus trips. This industry has had time to let Hall know about its position on the condom issue.
“Great speakers like Julie Meadows, Alana Evans and Princess Donna and Peter Acworth have voiced their opinions. So where is the audacity for people to finally wake up? They are like the Spicolis of porn. Like listen, bro, why donât you talk to some of us performers.
“Where has this person been? Cal/OSHA had meetings where Bryn Pryor and a whole slew of performers were screaming at Cal/OSHA people. All those bus trips to Sacramento, were they not performers?
“Is Peter Acworth not considered the performersâ voice? Where the hell does anyone in our business have the balls to say why donât you talk to us performers. You performers work during a moratorium.
“Spicoli of porn, where have you been when this debate was raging and you have heard from every single performer in the business? Isadore Hall is supposed to sit down with the Spicoli of porn and get his opinion. Hey Spicoli of porn, I guess youâre the leader.
“James Deen says no condoms. Ron Jeremy says no condoms and Steve Hirsch said Iâm going to work during the moratorium. Hey Spicoli you want Isadore Hall to sit down with you? Keiran Lee is telling Isadore Hall why donât you talk to performers.
The Spicoli of porn says me and you will sit down and hash out these matters. Forget about Ron Jeremy he is nobody. Forget about Steven Hirsch. Heâs nobody. Keiran Lee, the list goes on and on.”
Black suspected that Hall would hold up all proceedings so that Keiran Lee could get an audience to hash out the condom-thing. [Not really]
“Are you guys insane?”
“Hereâs the scenario that people donât see,” continued Black.
“Weâre not going to let this bill come to the floor because these pornographers are so out of control. Weâre going to look better and keep the bill on the shelves until December. Itâs just not in the fiscal budget and weâll put it off. By that time those crazy bastards will destroy themselves even more.
“Theyâre going to keep coming up with cases of HIV and the news media will start going after companies while AHF and Cal/OSHA will be banging out violations and weâll be building up support from people who want a public health initiative.”
“Our business has been predicated on doing nothing until someone bashes you over the head,” said Black.
“Weâve never had regulation and never said guys, you canât do that. Weâve never had that, so we go until the wheels come off. Here we are in a holding pattern and the sad thing is we have HIV in the business.
“People are shooting. It doesnât matter. Nobody cares. Everyone makes excuses in their heads to justify what they do, Our industry never had rules but we did have people who had a fragment of common sense.
“We didnât have a written set of rules. Steve Hirsch was around for that period so was Christian Mann, but for them not to believe any of those structures is pretty fucked up. And you have performers out there now saying the most ludicrous stuff and people are lying to each other.
“Itâs obvious that no oneâs going to do anything on their own and go with the idea Iâm condom and thatâs it. I wonât work if I canât use a condom.
“People from Wicked are not in our world. They work for a company that does everything for them. If they were part of our world they would be talking differently. The last Wicked girl â they had a girl they got rid of. I guarantee she does not do all condom.
“And if those Wicked contract girls got their asses booted theyâd be doing bareback like all the other girls. Somebody told me that Wicked and their directors produce content for Manwin, and those sites do not use condoms.
“I would like to know if there is truth to that. Jonathan Morgan is the only one over there that has any credibility. [Morgan was quarantined as a performer when the first HIV outbreak hit the business.]
“He can tell you the good and the bad.
“Nothingâs going to be done for our safety unless itâs done for us,” Black continued.
“Itâs all about money. When you talk to the old timers in the business theyâd say ‘the people I hang out with are better than the other people.’
“If youâre in porn long enough, a person you despised in Year One will be your best friend in Year Five. There is a slew of people that want to be condom but are too weak to stand by it.
“Youâre never going to stop that without a law. No different than seat belts and smoking. Weâre never going to stop people from being renegades and shooting without condoms so we need to put regulation in place to curb it and stop it. Punish them. Thatâs how youâre going to have to deal with our business.
“The only solution is a government mandate and a unified association coming in and organizing the labor of the business with laws on the books protecting the workers.
“We can bitch and moan all we want. But weâre going to be in a very funny situation. The bill is going to get held up to December. During that time everyone will shoot outside of Los Angeles but you will have slews of lawyers working with people and coming up with Cal/OSHA cases because youâre showing youâre circumventing laws to put workers in harmsâ way even more. That is frightening.
“As Steve Hirsch has seen, going to Las Vegas and circumventing laws heâs now getting shit for what he just did. Steve Hirsch is running a very specific thought out plan to put worker safety at risk by shooting outside of Los Angeles where they donât have to wear a condom.
“Spicoli, is this registering?
“Weâre going to sit back and the regulation is going to come in and thatâs what is going to save our industry. With regulation you will weed out garbage from the talent to the studios.
“You will see this business legitimize itself. Itâs hard to argue against that. Thatâs the reason why a fight is going on- itâs all about money. You got the lawyers like Cambria and people working against us and what we do from obscenity on down.
“Paul Cambria has never called Isadore Hall. Once we become legitimized you wonât need people like Paul Cambria. What weâre doing now is legitimizing this business and weâve got a battle thatâs huge. Itâs an all consuming battle.
“All of you are saying youâre for the talent, but everything youâre doing is hurting them.”
Black said John Stagliano and Christian Mann specialize in dishing out misinformation and itâs only hurting the performers.
