PITTSBURGH – A husband and wife who owned a California company that distributed videos depicting deviant sexual conduct, including simulated rape and murder, are scheduled for sentencing before a federal judge in Pittsburgh.
Robert Zicari and Janet Romano pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to distribute DVDs purchased by an undercover U.S. postal inspector in Pittsburgh and face sentencing Wednesday along with their company, Extreme Associates Inc. of Northridge, Calif.
The couple contests the government’s claim that the material is “sadistic or masochistic” for sentencing purposes, and their attorneys are expected to argue for probation.
U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan says any jury in the country would have found the DVDs “obscene” under federal law.
