Ron Jeremy talks to Digital Spy About One Eyed Monster

From www.digitalspy.com- With well over 1,000 film credits to his name and 30-plus years in showbusiness, Ron Jeremy has risen to legendary status in the porn industry. He’s also crossed over into mainstream Hollywood, consulting on Boogie Nights and 9 1/2 Weeks, and appearing in Ronin and most recently Crank: High Voltage. When DS heard about Ron’s horror-comedy One Eyed Monster, we were eager to find out more.

Q:Tell us a bit about One Eyed Monsters and the role you play in it.
A: “It’s a horror film but a comedy at the same time. It’s like Friday The 13th and Halloween meets Alien. If aliens could see the Earth the first thing they’d notice is satellites. What’s the biggest thing on satellite? Porn. What’s the biggest thing in porn? Me. The aliens infiltrate my penis and it severs from my body during a sex scene and runs along the floor and starts a killing spree. It is so bizarre and so funny.”

Q: Were the filmmakers fans of yours before approaching you?
A: “I don’t really know. I can’t say yes or no to that. They were trying to package this movie for seven years. All films take so long. The first thing Richard Attenborough said when he won an Oscar for Gandhi was it took him 12 years to make. People just don’t accept good ideas sometimes.”

Q: You were on board for all those seven years?
A: “Yeah. Then with the popularity of the reality shows I did, The Surreal Life, Fame Games; I did shows in England, The Farm with Lionel Blair and Emma Noble. I did Ruby Wax’s show, Frank Skinner, I lectured at Oxford. My autobiography was a bestseller in England…”

Q: You have over 1,000 credits to your name…
A: “A lot of them mainstream not porn. I even have a cameo in Crank 2, I yell at Jason Statham. I’m getting there, things are happening. When they first approached me for One Eyed Monster I was more known for porn. Now other things have come along to help them make the sale.”

Q: So you enjoy making mainstream films more?
A: “Yeah, I always wanted to do mainstream more, that was always my desire. I enjoy the adult, I still enjoy doing the beautiful girl here and there.”

Q: Has porn lost its seediness a bit since the internet has made it more accessible?
A: “In a way you’re right. The internet was actually a big boost to the porn business, though recently it’s killing the porn business. Now people are downloading porn for free. Who wants to buy a DVD anymore? You can sit there with your hand on your penis until next Christmas and not pay one dime.”

Q: What do you think of Sasha Grey making The Girlfriend Experience with Steven Soderbergh?
A: “She’s a good friend of mine. It’s a very nice thing when people from porn get nice mainstream work. I’ve done it, a lot of performers have done it. She’s very sexy, very sultry, she’s a great performer both acting-wise and sex-wise. She’s got a real shot.”

— Ron’s mobile phone rings. He answers. —
“Please hold one second. Hello? Hi, honey, can you give me one moment? I’m doing British press right now for a movie that’s coming out. Can you give me half an hour, we’ll go to my condo and figure something out. Thank you, honey. Bye, bye. Yeah, go ahead…”

Q: What do you think of the way Hollywood depicts the porn industry?
A: “They do the best they can. I had to explain to the people in the industry that Boogie Nights was a very accurate representation of a very small, select few. That was not the business in general. I said it, Mark Wahlberg said it, the director Paul Thomas Anderson said it. A very select few that were living in Los Angeles doing all kinds of serious drugs, getting involved in guns – it was not like the New York crowd. It was a very select Los Angeles crowd.”
