Semi Nude Pix Start Shit in H.S.

SAN DIEGO — Controversial pictures published in a high school magazine are prompting a family to take legal action.

At issue are pictures of three underage high school students who posed partially-clothed. The pictures were taken and published in the Torrey Pines High School magazine last June.

The parents of 16-year-old Monterey Salka filed a $1.5 million claim against the San Dieguito School District, saying the pictures were taken and published without their consent.

Dan Guilleon and Jim Mitchell represent Salka and her parents.

“Some photographs were taken of our minor client and those photographs were published. We believe that those photographs harmed her,” said Guilleon.

The claim reads that their client, who is a minor, was subjected to defamation, an invasion of privacy, inadequate supervision and that the pictures were unauthorized by the parents.

“Why the claim was made is in the claim. (There is) frustration with the district in how they handled the claim,” said Mitchell.

The family is also upset that the district made the claim available to the media.

“We made it very clear to the school district — in bold, capital letters — that this was private, privacy of a minor,” Mitchell said.

The superintendent did not want to comment. She said she received the claim and is reviewing it. If the school district rejects the claim, Salka’s parents can then file a lawsuit.
