from www.computerandvideogames.com - The dream of legit downloadable HD pornography on PS3 has taken what appears to be a fatal bullet.

Vivid Video - the world's largest porno creator - has told CVG that it opened discussions with Sony on the matter, but that the platform holder turned down a deal.

CVG understands that Vivid requested that Sony set up an age-locked area to download and stream adult movies on PS3 - to complement the console's existing portfolio of 'mainstream' films and TV shows.

"We started conversations with Sony but they didn't lead anywhere," Vivid founder and co-chairman Steven Hirsch told CVG.

Hirsch revealed last year that he was keen to push his product onto console - and was targeting Sony.

However, all might not be lost for gaming porn fans: Hirsch could now turn his attention to Microsoft.

"If we could get further than we did with Sony [on Xbox 360], we'd be very interested," he added.

Tech industry commentators have suggested that pornography could be the biggest driver of sales of 3D TVs and home entertainment equipment - including Sony's PlayStation and Bravia products.

However, Hirsch told CVG that the porn industry was torn between the promise of 'SmartTV' - which combines HDTV and internet browsing - and 3D in the home.

"At this point, there is very little 3D content around and we think there is a problem with consumers needing to use glasses each time they watch.

"On the other hand, Smart TV is clearly on its way and it would make sense for the 3D people to get together with the Smart TV people to produce one device with full capabilities.

"If consumers are given a choice of either 3DTV or Smart TV, their indecision about which technology to select could stall progress."

Vivid's most popular movies include Debbie Does Dallas... Again.

We hear it's quite the sequel.
