[SF valley Examiner]- Valley-based porn star Stormy Daniels- buxom star of such titillating adult features as Operation Desert Stormy and Valley 911- Internal Affairs- is considering a bid for a Senate seat in her home state of Louisiana.
If elected, Daniels will join a surprisingly large list of porn stars turned politician. Ilona Staller, better known as Cicciolina, was elected to Italian parliament in 1987. Mimi Miyagi, a Filipina porn star, filed as a Republican gubernatorial candidate in Nevada in 2006. And many Californians are already (more than) familiar with the infamous Mary Carey, who made a very well-publicized run for Governor in 2003.
Stormy’s fans, who apparently suggested her turn to politics in the first place, have created a Draft Stormy website. The site expounds the virtues of the 29 year old adult actress, promising a ‘storm that will sweep Louisiana of corrupt politicians once and for all.’ There’s even a petition that will allow potential supporters to receive updates and announcements in the lead-up to the 2010 elections.
The Baton Rouge native has not yet formally announced her bid for the Senate- or pledged allegiance to any particular party- but she is clearly more than interested. A ‘listening tour’ in Louisiana is already in the works, where Stormy hopes to have a pulpit in which to discuss the political issues she plans to champion.
Interestingly, if Ms. Daniels does indeed decide to run, she will face up against incumbent Republican Sen. David Vitter, whom punters may remember from the infamous ‘DC Madam’ scandal in 2007. A shamed Vitter publicly acknowledged his use of the escort service, a move that lost him a significant amount of goodwill. Whether or not this will affect his chances for re-election remains to be seen, although Vitter is known to be a cunning and well-connected politico.
Good luck, Stormy. Who better to expose the corruption inherent in a broken political system than a confirmed exhibitionist? Ms. Daniels has nothing to hide- unlike her potential competition.
