Pleasure-seeking just got a lot more convenient for Huntsville residents thanks to an Alabama sex shop that’s now selling sex toys through a drive-up window.

Owner Sherri Williams [pictured] says her shop is the first adult store in the nation to offer car service and it’s all a part of her crusade to take the stigma away from sex shops.

“The real essence of what I’m trying to get across is adult stores don’t have to be hidden in back alleys,” Williams told The Huntsville Times. “Obviously we wouldn’t be doing as well as we are if no one enjoyed shopping here.”

The Huntsville store has three drive-thru lanes and could easily be mistaken for a suburban bank if not for its name: Pleasures. In fact, before Pleasures moved in and installed its sign with the tagline “one stop romance shop,” the building housed a bank.

Patrons can order from a menu of toys, lubricants and stimulants and receive their goods concealed in a plain, brown paper bag at the window.

Williams’ store first captured the national spotlight in 2007 when it challenged a state ban on sex toys – stating the ban violated the constitutional right to privacy. Alabama passed the ban in 1998 as part of a broader anti-obscenity law.

Williams’ case eventually went to the U.S. Supreme Court, but the ban stayed in place after the court refused to hear it.

Alabama is one of the last remaining states to enforce a ban on sex props. But the law has a medical loophole – Alabama residents are permitted to buy sex toys with a doctor’s note.

Customers are required to fill out a form detailing the health reasons for purchasing the titillating toys and the sale is a go only after it’s cleared as being for “a bona fide medical, scientific, educational, legislative, judicial or law enforcement purpose.”
