Strip Club Proposed In Edwardsville

Kansas- A strip club in a small town might be good for business, but some think it wouldn’t be a good neighbor.

KMBC’s Martin Augustine reported that a business group out of Kansas City wants to develop an entertainment venue, including a strip club, on the outskirts of Edwardsville, which is a few miles south of the Kansas Speedway.

The club would have a bar and restaurant and might employ 200 people.

Club backers hope to tap into the popularity of the Speedway and the nearby Legends shopping district.

Ray Bush, a farmer who lives next to the area of the proposed development, said a strip club would make him uncomfortable and he doesn’t want that kind of traffic.

“I don’t think that there’s a place for that here, not in Edwardsville. I don’t think there’s a place for it in the county. I don’t think there’s a place for it in the state,” Bush said.

Wyandotte County officials have tried hard in recent years to keep strip clubs out of the area.

An attorney for the group that wants to build in Edwardsville said the town has its own set of codes and zones and argues that the county restrictions may be unconstitutional.
