Sylver brought in a couple of girls from Scores for an experiment. Stern wanted to hear Sylver’s story wondering if all of this was legit. Sylver explained that he was a painfully shy kid who grew up on a farm in Michigan with nine brothers and sisters. “There was no running water- no electricity.” Sylver said he couldn’t get a date all through high school if his life depended on it. “I was terrified.”

Sylver learned hypnosis at the age of 17. Stern was curious how you learn this stuff. “You find a mentor,” Sylver explained. “You find somebody to teach you.” Sylver then studied. Stern painted an older man-young boy scenario: “Then you became one of the world’s leading hypnotists.” Stern said he couldn’t get dates but didn’t have a mentor. “I turned to a life of pot and LSD.”

Sylver, like Rob Seven, performs in Las Vegas. But Stern wanted to know how you go about finding a mentor. “You find somebody who already does it,” explained Sylver. “I found somebody who was considered to be the greatest hypnotist of the time and I went and studied with him.” Giving a demonstration, Sylver, counting backwards, immediately put the two Scores girls under.

“They are in trance,” proclaimed Sylver. “Out is not a good interpretation because we’re still aware. In fact we’re even more aware.
