Tiffany Granath on “Love Calls with Poorman”

Pasadena- Got love problems? If you’re like most college students, chances are you’ve got a ton of them.

If you’re looking for a solution for your love queries and want to get a laugh out of it at the same time, why not give Jim “Poorman” Trenton and his “love doctors” a ring?

Trenton, the original “Loveline” creator, hosts a nightly radio show, “Love Calls with Poorman,” on AM 1540. The show features Trenton, Playboy Playmate Tiffany Granath, two medical doctors (one male, one female) along with nightly celebrity “love doctors.” Listeners call in with their love problems and sometimes discuss other issues as they come up. The show is outrageous, cutting-edge and hilarious.

“‘Love Calls’ has the ‘Loveline’ approach but it’s more on the edge by far,” said Trenton. “It’s the loosest show on radio, no doubt about it.”

Issues that have been discussed on the show include the comparison of the size of “unitages” among ethnic groups. Trenton brought in a urologist to give the results.

The show definitely teeters on the edge of what is considered “acceptable” on radio. “Love Calls” recently got into trouble for comments that porn star and former California gubernatorial candidate Mary Carey made on the air. Trenton has been fired from KIIS, KROQ, KPWR and STAR for his edginess, but refuses to compromise his approach to comply with regulations.

“I get lots of hard times from the station,” said Trenton. “Management is always worried about getting hit by an FCC fine and completely freaks out.”

He called himself “a little kid just having fun.”

But perhaps the programs edginess is what listeners crave and what makes it a successful show. Trenton said that the reaction to the show, which has been running since Feb. 14, has been “pretty good” and listeners seem to like it so far.

Another reason for the show’s success is the fact that Trenton will put anyone on the show no matter how ridiculous they are.

“Radio should be fun,” he said.

Asked what his hopes for the show were, Trenton replied that he would like to see “Love Calls” syndicated so it can give the current “Loveline” hosts pink slips in 18 months. “They stole my idea and I hope karma comes around,” he said.

For now, listeners can expect tons of laughs and outrageous advice. A future “love doctos” on the horizon includes actor Ashton Kutcher.

The show airs on AM 1540 at 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Mondays, and 10 p.m. to midnight on Tuesdays through Fridays. The show is also on the Internet uncensored at www.1540theticket.com.

For those who would like responses to their most burning love questions or just want to get on the radio, give “Love Calls” a ring at (800) 770-1540 or visit www.poorman.com.

You’ll definitely get a kick out of what you hear.
