Which Side is Aim On?

Porn Valley- Porn Legends, www.pornlegends.com, posts: Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM), is a non-profit, client-supported clinic providing state-of-the-art HIV/STD testing and monitoring, medical services, counseling and safer-sex education to the adult entertainment industry.” Remember this quote as you continue to read this column.

“Government-imposed supervision of adult video production, whether mandating the use of condoms or prohibiting sexual practices deemed to be high-risk, will have the certain impact of driving production underground and alienating performers from the healthcare system. If performers do not feel safe to come in for testing, fearing that their sensitive personal information will be subject to hostile bureaucratic scrutiny, they won’t test and will, in fact, become unsafe, for themselves and others.”

Could someone explain why “driving production underground and alienating performers from the healthcare system” are mentioned as equally important when the two are completely different subjects? A person’s medical history is a very private matter, understandably, but it does NOT relate to driving porn production undergound. What is AIM suggesting? Is it that actors will stop getting tested altogether OR is it that they will stop getting tested at AIM? And if the industry is driven underground, will that mean that those companies will no longer want their actors to have any HIV/STD tests? Name an actor that has a functional brain cell that would want to risk his or her health by having unprotected sex with someone that doesn’t have a current HIV/STD test?

“As AIM has from its inception, we strongly advise the use of condoms in the creation of adult entertainment productions and urge producers to act responsibly by not discouraging performers from protecting their health. In demonstrating the ability to regulate ourselves, we obviate the perceived need for what would surel be onerous and inept regulation by others.”

Regulate – to govern or direct according to rule; to bring under control of law or constituted authority…

AIM should get a copy of Merriam-Webster’s collegiate dictionary (10th edition) because not listed in any definition of “regulate” are words like “strongly advise” and “urge.”

It is time for AIM to step out and take a stand. Is the foundation set up for “Health for the sex worker in body, mind, emotion & spirit,” or is it simply a lap dog running interference for the industry against government agencies.

If AIM truly cares about the “health for the sex worker in body, mind, emotion & spirit,” they should throw caution to the wind and demand that the industry institute a “condoms-only” policy. If not, then it will show that AIM cares more about the companies and the money they make (and donate to AIM), than they do about the men and women that appear in their productions.
