from www.usatoday.com – Since Marriott – one of the world’s largest hotel operators – has decided to eliminate porn from guestroom TVs in new hotels, Hotel Check-In has wondered whether other global giants will follow.

Last week, I had the chance to ask the leaders of LodgeNet what they expect. The nearly 30-year-old company provides in-room-entertainment to 1.7 million hotel rooms worldwide to hotel giants such as Marriott, Hilton and InterContinental Hotels Group.

LodgetNet CEO Scott Petersen told me that travelers should not expect others to follow Marriott.

“We don’t know of any other major hotel chains that are considering this type of a policy change,” Petersen told me during an interview in San Diego during the Americas Lodging Investment Summit.

Marriott has decided to stop offering adult movies in its new hotels as it shifts to a new in-room-entertainment platform and as rental revenues have fallen off, now that more traveler bring their own programs with them. Marriott’s policy change means that guests won’t see adult movies on their pay-per-view menus in Marriott, JW Marriott and Renaissance hotels.

Petersen also told me that Marriott’s decision has already been adopted, since Marriott decided to cut pay-per-view porn in its new hotels a year ago.

So what does Hilton – which is tied with Marriott as LodgeNet’s No. 1 hotel customer – have to say about its position on pay-per-view porn? It’s not entirely clear. Here’s the statement that a Hilton spokeswoman gave me:

“We are aware of Marriott’s move and (are) always assessing our whole range of offerings to best suit our guests.”
