PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - from www.kpho.com - People head to Wal-Mart for all sorts of reasons.

Crooks even target them.

But 23-year-old Spencer Danger Cullen (pictured- yes, "Danger" really is the middle name here) apparently went to Wal-Mart for a sex change.

Let's back up.

"It was early Thursday morning when Prescott Police was notified of a burglary that occurred at the Wal-Mart," said Prescott Police Lt. Andy Reinhardt.

Cullen and her cohort, 19-year-old Adriano Valdes Altiveros III, are the ones police said are responsible.

Police tell CBS 5 News the crooks in this case nabbed $45,000 in cash.

Both suspects work at the Wal-Mart in Prescott. Police told CBS 5 News Cullen is some sort of supervisor, which means she had access to the keys that get the cash.

"Altiveros assisted by distracting cashiers that worked just outside the cash office," Reinhardt said.

Police said Altiveros used the money to buy a $22,000 Toyota Supra.

It was Cullen's plan for the cash that had people talking.

"Detectives learned that Cullen's motive for taking this money was she wanted to pursue a sex change and wanted the money to pay for that operation," Reinhardt said.

Cullen was born a woman, but she lives life as a man and told police she wanted to make the full transition.

Police said she thought her connections at Wal-Mart would give her the cash she needed to make the leap.

Cullen and Altiveros face felony theft and burglary charges.

Police said they've recovered all but 31 cents of the cash.
