Texas [Ft. Worth Star Telegram]- Authorities scoured Texas on Thursday for a man wanted in the slaying of an 18-year-old Kansas college student whose death revealed her double life as an Internet porn star.

There is no evidence that Emily Sander’s work for the Web site under the name Zoey Zane was connected to her disappearance last weekend, the police chief in El Dorado, Kan., said Thursday.

“At this point, we have no reason to think her role in the adult Web site was a factor,” Tom Boren said.

Authorities recovered a body Thursday afternoon that was thought to be Sander’s beside a highway east of El Dorado, police said. The case is being investigated as a homicide.

Sander, who attended high school for a year in Bandera, was last seen the night of Nov. 23 leaving an El Dorado bar, police said. She left with Israel Mireles, a 24-year waiter at a nearby Italian restaurant. The next day, a motel manager found a large amount of blood in the room where Mireles was staying, Boren said. Some bedding was missing and Mireles was gone.

The rental car Mireles was driving was found abandoned Tuesday in Vernon, about 50 miles northwest of Wichita Falls, where his mother and some brothers live, Boren said. Authorities believe he may be headed for Mexico, where he also has relatives.

Sander, a student at Butler Community College in El Dorado, doubled as Zoey Zane, Boren said.

The Web site where she appeared had about 30,000 subscribers who pay $39.95 a month, the site’s designer told The Associated Press. The free teaser pictures of Sander and other women are tame compared with the videos and pictures that come with a subscription to the site.

“She actually was one of the highest-climbing Web sites I had ever seen,” said designer David Thomas, who works for a videography and photography business based in Florida. “It was amazing; it was incredible.”

Sander’s friend Nikki Watson told the AP that Sander enjoyed the work.

“She is a young teenage girl, and she wanted to be in the movies and enjoyed movies. She needed the extra money,” said Watson, a college classmate of Sander’s. “Nobody in El Dorado knew besides her close friends.”

Sander’s boyfriend broke up with her because he did not approve, Watson said.

Police heard “murmurs” that Sander’s involvement with the Web site could have led to her disappearance, Boren said.

However, “We’ve interviewed [the operator] who runs it and haven’t found any connection between the two,” Boren said. “This wasn’t a case where money was owed to somebody or anything like that.”

The Web site’s operator has taken Sander’s images down out of respect for her family, Boren said.

A Bandera school official said Sander attended school there her sophomore year. The case is generating interest among students because of local media attention, said Brad Domitrovich, a spokesman with the Bandera school district.

“She was here so quickly,” Domitrovich said. “She wasn’t really ensconced here like she was up there in that community.”

In Kansas, authorities searched a nearby river before the body believed to be hers was found east of El Dorado, Boren said.

Mireles is believed to be traveling with his pregnant 16-year-old girlfriend, whom he picked up in Baxter Springs, Kan., the day after Sander was last seen. He did not appear to be injured when he picked her up, Boren said.

“Since he knows we are looking for him, and he won’t come forward, we definitely consider him a person of interest,” Boren said.

Federal and local law enforcement agencies along the Mexican border are watching for Mireles, he said. It is unknown what kind of vehicle Mireles is driving. His relatives in Vernon have refused to cooperate with authorities, Boren said.

Mireles has arrests in Texas on suspicion of criminal mischief, carrying a prohibited weapon and driving while intoxicated, according to Texas Department of Public Safety records.

Kansas- [USA Today] A Kansas family is grieving the loss of Emily Sander, a porn star known as Zoey Zane, following the announcement by police that they’ve recovered a body that matches the college student’s description.

The Wichita Eagle reports this morning that “a Butler County deputy and an El Dorado police officer found a body matching Sander’s description at about 2:20 p.m. along U.S. 54 near the Woodson County town of Toronto, 50 miles east of El Dorado. The body was found on the fifth day of a widespread ground search.”

Sander was last seen Friday leaving a bar with Israel Mireles, a 24-year-old resident alien with ties to Mexico. He is now the subject of an international manhunt.

“We loved her,” grandfather Clem Sander tells the paper.

Police Chief Tom Boren says the public attention that the case has attracted because of Sander’s involvement with pornography is “literally crippling our investigation.”

He has said that Sander’s work for the website isn’t believed to have played a role in her disappearance.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram says about 30,000 people each paid $39.95 a month to look at nude photos of the teenager.

Mireles, the suspect in her disappearance, is said to have relatives in that paper’s circulation area who aren’t cooperating with detectives.The Grand Vizier calls and asks the following question: “As of November 27, one of the movies nominated in the AVN awards hasn’t been released.
