CLENDENIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Community backlash has been considerable against the owners of the new adult entertainment store Pandora’s Treasure.
“We don’t need that in our town,” Clendinin resident Barbara Dixon said.
Overall, Pandora’s Treasure chest isn’t getting a warm welcome. It sells adult videos and novelties. Since there’s nothing in the city’s code to keep these types of businesses out of town, owner Barry Holcomb decided to cash in on the opportunity.
“I’ve had a lot of younger generations tell me it’s time for change in that town,” Holcomb said. “They want us there. How can you make an opinion without coming into the store?”
Doing business is something others can understand.
“He has a job to do just like everybody else, and he doesn’t bother anybody,” Faye Metheney of Clendenin said. “I think they should just leave him alone.”
But the fear that one store could lead to another still looms. Among those against Pandora’s Treasure Chest is the Clenedenin Ministerial Association.
The complaints have led the city to make some changes. The town council planned to introduce an ordinance Monday night to restrict where these types of businesses can open.
