Max Livingstone, a 28-year-old general contractor from Albany, will be among the dozen or so Air Sex competitors. Livingstone said he’d been working on a routine with a female partner but she dropped out last week. “The rehersals seemed a little too intimate for her tastes,” Livingstone noted. “Now it’s just me.”

We were curious how this new air event went over with those who work, live, and play, in San Francisco’s notoriously tolerant air-positive community so we contacted Craig Billmeier, aka Hot Lixx Hulahan.

“If the competitive air guitar community can get away with making fun of one thing,” Billmeier wrote in an email, “it is the air sex community.”

Serious air enthusiasts already know that the U.S. Air Guitar Championships return to San Francisco June 26 and 27, culminating what might as well be called, “Air Week.”
