www.newsday.com- NEW YORK – The leader of a Brooklyn marching band that participated in President Barack Obama’s inauguration has resigned amid allegations of an “inappropriate relationship” with an underage band member.
New York City Department of Education investigators say a 10-month investigation concluded band leader Tyrone Brown was involved in an “inappropriate relationship” with a then-17-year-old member during a trip to Bermuda in 2008.
Brown, who was director of the Jackie Robinson Steppers Marching Band, says he never had sex with the band member, who now is 18.
The young woman told investigators she and Brown were only close friends. She then stopped cooperating with them.
Brown says he was asked to step down.
The band participated in Obama’s inauguration parade.
